Career Success

Ken graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and received a master’s degree in civil engineering from Northwestern University. Ken was employed by Terracon for over 34½ years retiring in June 2019. When he joined Terracon in 1984, they had less than 150 employees in seven offices; at retirement, Terracon had grown to over 4,000 employees in 150 offices. In 1988, Ken became the office manager and a principal in the company. Ken was asked on several occasions to manage Terracon offices in larger communities, but he stayed and managed the Quad Cities office for over 24 years guiding the office through several challenging periods to financial success and becoming a recognized, well respected community business. He is the geotechnical engineer of record for many of the area’s prominent buildings/structures.

 

Community Involvement

Ken enjoys giving back more than he enjoys sitting back.  Some of his favorite activities include:

  • Scott County Regional Authority (SCRA) Ex-Officio

  • United Way Reading for Tomorrow tutor

  • Serving United Way lunches for Scott County fund raisers

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters “Over the Edge”

  • Bettendorf School District Portrait of a Graduate committee

  • Bettendorf School District superintendent search committee

  • Bettendorf School Bond Referendum Committee

  • Funded grant for tutoring in Bettendorf School District

  • Music Worship Leader at Heritage Church and other local churches throughout the Quad Cities for over 26 years

  • Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Board of Directors , 2020-2022

  • Scott County Poll worker
